Takahisa Amemiya Joins ON Semiconductor to Lead the Japan Sales and Marketing Organization

TOKYO, Japan – Aug. 28, 2013  ON Semiconductor Corporation (Nasdaq: ONNN), driving innovation in energy efficiency, announced that Takahisa Amemiya has joined the company to manage and lead the sales and marketing operations in Japan as President and Representative Director of ON Semiconductor Japan, Ltd. and Co-President and Representative Director of SANYO Semiconductor Device Co., Ltd.

“Amemiya-san is a strong addition to ON Semiconductor and will be a valuable leader for our Japan sales and marketing organization,” said Paul Rolls, executive vice president of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for ON Semiconductor. “We brought Amemiya-san on board to build a strong demand-creation sales and marketing organization focused on selling ON Semiconductor’s broad portfolio of products into Japan, and growing our business at key Japanese customers and distribution partners.”

Amemiya-san brings 25 years of semiconductor industry experience in sales, product line business unit (BU) management and field applications engineering (FAE) management to the position. Most recently he was Country Manager for Fairchild Semiconductor’s Japan sales and marketing organization. Amemiya-san has also held sales, business unit and marketing positions at Texas Instruments (TI). At TI he successfully led a $600 million analog and logic business as a general manager and was a member of executive operating team for TI’s Japan entity.

“Accelerating the upward growth of ON Semiconductor revenues in Japan will require demonstrating to customers the value-add provided by the company’s broad range of energy efficient solutions, outstanding design support and customer service, and responsiveness of its global supply chain network,” said Amemiya. “We will work in partnership with our customers to help them differentiate their products by solving their unique design challenges with our broad portfolio of product and innovative, energy efficient solutions that addresses a wide range of end-market applications.”

ON Semiconductor – Japan
ON Semiconductor recently reported worldwide second quarter total revenues of $688.3 million. Of this, sales into Japan represented approximately 11 percent of total sales. Global sales by the company’s SANYO Semiconductor Products Group, which is based in Japan, were $160.4 million, up 6 percent quarter-on-quarter.

ON Semiconductor offers more than 44,000 products and leading-edge system solutions. The company’s focused end-markets within Japan include automotive, industrial, white goods, mobile, computing, communications, medical and other consumer products. Driving expanded adoption of ON Semiconductor system solutions, custom ASIC capabilities, mixed-signal, analog and industry-leading standard products into all electronics end-markets is a key part of the company’s Japan customer support strategy.

The company has had operations based in Japan since 1999, when ON Semiconductor spun-off from Motorola Inc., and at that time took on manufacturing facilities within the country that dated back to the mid-1980s. Currently in Japan, ON Semiconductor has more than 2,000 employees. Among the company’s Japan-based operations are a Tokyo sales office and a Solutions Engineering Center (SEC) dedicated to supporting customers’ product development needs, two Design Centers located in Gunma and Gifu, primary business operations for the SANYO Semiconductor Product Group in Gunma, and both 5-inch and 6-inch wafer manufacturing facilities at its Niigata campus.
