PW Power Systems Secures First Contract for the Sale of an FT4000(TM) SWIFTPAC(R) Unit – Next-Generation Aero-Derivative Gas Turbine

GLASTONBURY, Connecticut, Aug. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — PW Power Systems, Inc. (PWPS), a group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., announced today the sale of its latest aero-derivative power solution, the FT4000(TM) gas turbine, to a unit of Exelon Generation. Exelon purchased a 120 MW simple-cycle FT4000(TM) SWIFTPAC(R) power generation unit.

Exelon Corporation is one of the nation’s leading energy providers with approximately 35,000 MW of owned capacity comprising one of the cleanest and lowest-cost power generation fleets in the United States.

PWPS has a long legacy of delivering extremely reliable and efficient gas turbine engines. With a modular design that includes proven features of the successful FT8(R) SWIFTPAC(R) power plants, the FT4000(TM) engine powered by a Pratt & Whitney(R) PW4000(TM) derivative gas generator offers a nominal 60 to 120 MW package of reliable peaking and base-load power in a compact footprint. The FT4000(TM) engine is designed for simple cycle, combined cycle or cogeneration applications. The FT4000(TM) SWIFTPAC(R) unit provides the highest power output of any aero-derivative gas turbine generator package available in the market.

As a next generation product, the FT4000(TM) SWIFTPAC(R) unit builds on over 50 years of aero-derivative packaging experience and more than 2000 industrial gas turbines installed worldwide. “Exelon is an existing customer of PWPS with extensive industry experience and we look forward to a successful introduction of the FT4000(TM) product to the Exelon generation portfolio,” said Peter Christman, president of PWPS. The scope of the contract consists of the turnkey supply of the FT4000(TM) SWIFTPAC(R) unit for a power plant in Harford County, Md., including balance of plant equipment, installation and commissioning services.
